GEO-LOCATION

Tropical areas of Martinique.


HABITAT

Scrubland to desert habitat.

CHARACTERISTICS

a) Common Name

Antilles Pinktoe / Versicolour Tarantula.

b) Type

Arboreal.

c) Temperament

This species of tarantula is docile but skittish and can run quickly if startled.

d) Colouration

This tarantula has hues of green, orange, red and even purple.

e) Growth

Medium - Fast.

f) Full Grown Size

12cm – 15cm (5-6 inches).

g) Lifespan

Females: roughly 9 years. Males roughly 3 years. Males die shortly after maturing.

KEEPING THIS SPIDER IN CAPTIVITY

a) Cage setup

Spiderlings can live in a clear plastic container with air holes. Adults can live in a 2ft (20 gallon) tank. Height is more important that floor area..

b) Substrate

At least 5 - 7.5cm (2 - 3 inches) of peat.

c) Decor

Provide lots of plastic plants to make webs between. Add a length of hollow bark and stand it upright in the enclosure so that the spider can make web
behind it.


d) Temperature

24 – 27°C (75 - 80°F)

e) Humidity

75 to 80%. Mist enclosure often. Ensure good ventilation.

f) Water source

Sub-adults – adults may drink from a shallow, wide water dish.

g) Feeding

Spiderlings can be fed on pinhead crickets and other small insects. Adults can be fed on large crickets and other large insects.
