Brazilian Salmon Pink



GEO-LOCATION

 Eastern Brazil.


HABITAT

Tropical rainforests.

CHARACTERISTICS

a) Common Name

Brazilian Salmon Pink / Brazilian Salmon Pink Bird-eater.

b) Type

Terrestrial.

c) Temperament

Semi-aggressive.

d) Colouration

This tarantula has a black colouration to the body and legs, with contrasting white hairs.

e) Growth

Fast.

f) Full Grown Size

17.5cm – 25cm (7.5 – 10 inches). This tarantula grows fast, attaining lengths of 15cm (6 inches) in one year. The Brazilian Salmon Pink Birdeater is one of the largest species of tarantula in the world.

g) Lifespan

Females: 15+ years. Males generally live less than half that.

KEEPING THIS SPIDER IN CAPTIVITY

a) Cage setup

Spiderlings can live in a clear plastic container with air holes. Adults can live in a 1ft (10-gallon) tank. Floor space is more important than height.

b) Substrate

7.5cm – 12.5cm (3 - 5 inches) of peat.

c) Decor

No decorations are really needed, but you can add plastic plants, rocks and driftwood.

d) Temperature

24 – 29°C (75 - 85°F)

e) Humidity

75 to 80%

f) Water source

Sub-adults – adults may drink from a shallow, wide water dish.

g) Feeding

Spiderlings can be fed on pinhead crickets and other small insects. Adults can be fed on large crickets and other large insects, as well as an occasional pinkie mouse.
